KOYA
A university project with the brief of developing a character with notable cultural influence. I created the character Koya, an eleven year old native Inca girl from Peru.
Koya’s father is an archaeologist with a focus on South American history. One day when Koya is helping explore with her father, they come across an interesting relic with symbols different to anything they had encountered. This relic suddenly emits a burst of light, surrounds Koya’s father and splits his body into multiple fragments, sending them to be enclosed within similar artefacts across the land.
The power of the mystical energy sends the fragments and Koya herself back thousands of years in the past to the time of the ancient Incan empire, around the 12th century A.D. Koya now has to fend for herself in a strange land, and her mission is to find and put her father back together to reunite with him, and to find her way back to the present. As Koya progresses on her mission she discovers more about the lost Incan civilisation and makes some friends along the way, including a solid gold Guide of the Gods in the form of an armadillo named Cachi.
